There are several ways for companies to get new software. They can simply buy it, buy and customize it or build it from scratch by their own. In the last case there are two more possibilities: the company can build it with internal resources or mandate some else for building it.
Nowadays there’s another, a new way: companies can simply download the needed software from the internet. Thanks to open source projects there’s a vast amount of software of every kind for free. But what if the tool doesn’t fit the needs perfectly? Well it’s open source and you can ask the community.
It’s the case now with a plugin for WordPress. Calais, an initiative from Reuters, ask the developer community around wordpress and offers 5.000 US$ for the person, who’s able to deliver the needed plugin. We’ll see, if this new kind of software development will happen more often in the future.
